LISTER & JUNK FOOD ART HOUSE EVENT

Noticed any superhero posters on the streets of LA over the last few weeks…? It's all been in preparation for Junk Food Art House and world famous street artist Anthony Lister's unique art event that took place on Friday at HVW8 gallery in Melrose.  Junk Food Art House is our brands newest platform celebrating the creativity we have in house and launching outside initiatives with renowned artists.

Friday's art event, which was inspired by DC superhero, was great success.  Anthony flew in from Australia and spent the days prior to the event creating the art and creating a phenomenal mural on the galleries exterior wall.  He also had time to graffiti the Junk Food truck! His limited edition tee's of his superhero art are available online now, but snap them up fast…there are only 50 made of each design!!

COMICON 2011

This weekend I was one of a few lucky JunkFoodys that had the opportunity to visit San Diego's annual Comicon convention.  Comicon, to all you novices, celebrates all things comic related, branching out into films, print, fantasy, and all things nerdy!! We loved having passes that described us as "Profesionals"…professional nerds perhaps? We'll take that!

The amount of merchandise and exhibits on show is pretty overwhelming and ranges from the obvious Star Wars and Marvel stands to more obscure comic art and upcoming artists.

Probably the most entertaining part, for me at least, was the amount of people who were dressed up as their favorite characters. Some people had definitely been saving all their pocket money to afford some craaaazy outfits… There were too many spiderman's at Comicon to count, but we later found out that the new Spiderman, Andrew Garfield, had visited the event in costume…I wonder if this is him waving to us??

If i had to guess I would probably say that brandon had the most fun ;)

Junk Food fans were out in force this weekend and we were really excited to meet them! Here are just a few that we managed to stop for a photo. All in all a GREAT weekend!!

MEET WASHINGTON….

The newest member of the Junk Food family and everyone's new favorite man about town….Washington!!  The little black chiuaua had been hit by a vehicle on Friday morning and was rescued by one of our artists who found him badly injured by the road side.  The little fella came to the office and we took him to the vets to get checked out.

Washington miraculously only suffered a fractured pelvis from his accident, which will take 2 months of bed rest to fix.  However the vet found other issues with the little guy, who is believed to have been living on the streets for a while now. Not only were most of his teeth rotten but he had swallowed a coin!

He was in surgery on Saturday having his teeth extracted, his precious coin removed (!), and to be neutered. This was a lot for him to take in one day so we weren't able to collect him until monday evening.  We were so happy to see him doing so much better and he's bright and alert and basking in all the attention he has been getting in the office!  Once he's all fixed up we will be looking to get him adopted so he can live out the rest of the life in the lap of luxury he is now experiencing at our offices.  There will be no shortage of takers for him….but how will we focus on our work in the meantime..?

We will keep you updated on the little hero's progress!

MARK TODD EXHIBITION

Been a fan of this guy for a while so when we found out he was showing at a gallery in L.A .I was ecstatic!! He is exhibiting until the end of the month at the La Luz De Jesus Gallery at the back of the Wacko bookstore on Hollywood blvd (which sells Junk Food…check them out…!!).  The comic book influence is apparent through out his work which we LOVE but we hadn't anticipated the mixed media pieces and the installation which were fantastic. Would love an investment piece but most had sold by the time we got there..boooooo.
Check out the rest of Mark Todd's work at http://www.marktoddillustration.com/

SUNDAY FUNDAY AT THE FLEA

Since moving to L.A. my Sunday routine now typically consists of a yummy brunch at one of the hundreds of cafes in my neighborhood (I'm aiming to get through them all…), and then heading to the Melrose Trading Post, on Melrose and Fairfax, for a post-brunch rummage.  This place is seriously a goldmine, especially for jewelry and accessories.
There's always a few wildcards thrown in there…..
But it definitely proves inspiring for designing some of our licensed vintage tees.
…and for my summer handbag hunt….

FAILE: A DECADE OF PRINTS & ORIGINALS

Visited Brooklyn artists Faile's, 10 year retrospective, at the launch of Venice's new print shop Post No Bills on Abbot Kinney.  The show was pretty extensive featuring prints, painted originals and multimedia pieces. Its only on show until July 24th so make sure to check it out.
