ALEC MONOPOLY

Here in LA, art is everywhere you turn. From the corners Abbot Kinney to the gallery district in Culver City, you can find some inspiration just about anywhere. One of our favorite artists, Alec Monopoly, currently has an exhibition up at The Lab Art Gallery in LA. He is an unidentified graffiti artist who's art parodies the game of Monopoly and humanizes the Monopoly mascot. Check out some of his work:

MELTDOWN COMICS X JUNK FOOD X HASBRO EVENT

At long last here are photos from our fun event at Meltdown Comics a couple of weeks ago!
We teamed up with Hasbro to launch a Toybox game night, held at the Meltdown Comic store on Sunset boulevard. The event brought to life all of our Hasbro board game favorites including Monopoly, My little Ponys, Battlships, Nerf Guns, and Playdoh! There was food, drinks, music and even a huge Nerf gun battle!!
Thanks to everyone who came along to play!

MONOPOLY STREET ART

Came across this interesting street art during my daily perusal of the art blogs - Street artist Bored, based in Chicago, took to the streets and turned them into a real life monopoly board.  Once tracked down the street artists explained that “the goal of this entire project has been to present something different than a stencil painted on the ground or a poster pasted to a wall. Something 3-dimensional that can be picked up, beaten down, kicked, yanked, grabbed, and broken. And if someone ever put forth the effort to remove it, like a weed it will always grow back. And if left alone it will evolve into something different.”

We are definitely fans of street art that pushes the boundaries in this way - who said it had to be a spray paint mural on the side of a building anyway? The emergence of more and more 3-D based art in cities is really exciting, and of course we here at Junk Food have a special place in our hearts for Monopoly, so this really hits the spot!!
