THE BATTLE FOR L.A.

There is no denying it,we are an office of avid NBA fans here at Junk Food, so we were all excitedly anticipating yesterdays battle for L.A., with the Clippers taking on the Lakers. Hot off a six game winning streak, the Clippers seemed to be on the rise again, but of course you can never count out the might of the Lakers and Kobe Bryant.

Tristan, our resident sports artist, and borderline obsessive NBA fan, and I, were lucky enough to get our hands on tickets to this coveted game and as transplants to L.A. we are BIG supporters of the Clippers. You've got to love an underdog, and the story of the Clippers rise over the last two seasons, beneath the shadow of the beloved Lakers, is the ultimate underdog success story.  Both teams are on track for the playoffs but that didn't mean they didn't come out aggressive.  The game was a battle with a high point, for us at least, being Blake Griffin's incredible dunk on Pau Gasol...think his dunk on Perkins...but BETTER!! The Lakers went on the win after a close 4th quarter.

All of the NBA pre-playoff fever is evident on our web store with a new batch of NBA tees available just for you.  Sadly there aren't Clippers tees yet, BUT hold tight because we have something in the works.... ;) Nevertheless, NBA fans, ladies AND gentleman, you should check out the new styles so you aren't caught short before the playoffs kick off.

BATMAN LIVES!....IN MARYLAND.....SORRY WHAT?

Felt the need to share this with you guys, seen as its not everyday you read the news and see that Batman is more than a fictional superhero, and in fact a living breathing crime fighter, keeping the streets clean in Silver Springs, MD... An unusual place for one of the most famous superheroes of all time to be residing, but this is where police pulled over Lenny B. Robinson, a father of three, after noticing that the black Lamborghini he was driving through town lacked a license plate, instead sporting a batman logo in its place!!  Check out the news report here on ABC news...

JUNK FOOD IN LUCKY MAGAZINE

Salma Hayek graces the cover of this months Lucky magazine, and inside you'll find a great article on Tomboy Style Essentials.  Lucky selected our Junk Food Originals, Velvet Underground tee as an essential shirt to wear, ideal with skinny black jeans...we would have to agree!  Talking of tomboys, that's the namesake of one of my favorite blogs Tomboy Style by writer Lizzie Garrett, who comments on today's tomoboy style and those from the past.  Her take on a tomboy is as follows:

To define a tomboy requires searching beyond the simple notion of wearing boys' clothing.  Tomboys have influenced the expanses of popular culture including fashion, film, music and literature.  And although the tomboy is often identified by clothing, what makes her so wholly different is an inherent sense of confidence, rebelliousness and adventure.

If that is in fact a true definition then I'm proud to be a tomboy and you should be too! Pick up your Velvet Underground tee here!

HAND PAINTED TYPE, L.A.

New York, LA and countless other American cities are full of incredible examples of great typography.  Designer, RD Granados became particularly obsessed with the old fashioned style, hand painted type and set up Typarchive as a way to digitally document his finds. It's now expanded to include work from other photography contributors, resulting in an inspiring archive of type.  Recently, photographs taken from Compton, South Central LA were posted that are fantastic.
